Ocean Pollution is a major problem affecting all the ocean and seas of the planet. Pollution in the ocean directly affects ocean organisms and indirectly affects human health and resources. Oil spills, toxic wastes, and dumping of other harmful materials are all major sources of pollution in the ocean.

Antarctica‘s largest wind farm located on Ross Island at New Zealand’s Scott Base, the almost 1 MW wind farm is powered by three 333 kW Enercon wind turbines and will provide up to 11% of the power needed by the base, which will cut down on diesel use by 120,000 gallons and reduce carbon dioxide output by 1,370 tons annually.

Organic farming is an agricultural system that seeks to provide the consumers, with fresh, tasty and authentic food while respecting natural life-cycle systems.
The graph shows an increase in demand and production of organic food.
Urban heat island effect (UHI) describes the built up areas that are hotter than nearby rural areas.
Tiptheplanet on deforestation: Ecologists and environmental scientists have estimated that a massive 80 percent of all the different species of life that are on Earth - including some that are believed to exist but have yet to be officially “discovered” - live in the rainforests.

Tiptheplanet: Light pollution is a side effect of industrial civilization. It obscures the stars in the night sky for city dwellers, interferes with astronomical observatories, and, like any other form of pollution, disrupts ecosystems and has adverse health effects.

Tiptheplanet: More than 99% of the world’s available renewable energy is in one way or the other related to solar energy. The sun provides us with 174 petawatts (174,000 terawatts) of energy, of which half (89 petawatts) reaches the Earth surface. Since humanity consumes ‘only’ an estimated 15 Terawatts of power, we only need to convert a tiny fraction of this free solar energy (~0.00016%) in order to fulfill the energy needs of the global population.
Tiptheplanet: More than 4000 different chemicals have been found in tobacco & tobacco smoke. 60 chemicals are known to cause cancer.
Tiptheplanet: About 20% of earth’s oxygen is produced by the Amazon rainforest.
UNEP: Depletion of ozone layer has stabilised
“The depletion of ozone layer (a thin shield that envelopes the earth and filters and screens all harmful ultraviolet rays) has now stabilised, according to experts. In the path of recovery, it will take around fifty years for the ozone layer to go back to the stage it was in 1970s,” said Atul Bagai, senior regional coordinator, United Nations Environment Programme(UNEP).
He said the Chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) and other halogenated ozone depleting substances (ODS), mainly responsible for man-made chemical ozone depletion, were phased out in 2010. CFC was used in air conditioning, refrigeration, solvents, aerosol sprays, among others. The production and its use has stopped.
